Day of Sweden is our day!

The Day of Sweden, a holiday for residents of the city in the Malaya Konyushennaya Street that already became traditional, took place in St. Petersburg on June 27 of 2009. The holiday was organized by the Consulate General of Sweden with participation of Swedish companies and organizations that were working in Russia. Of course, Stockholm School of Economics, Russia could not abstain from participation in this holiday important for our two countries.

The Day of Sweden was timed to three remarkable events: the National Day of Sweden on June 6, the final round of the Volvo Ocean race in St. Petersburg on June 27 and current chairmanship of Sweden in the European Union.

Nineteen Swedish companies and organizations participated in the Day of Sweden on June 27. They presented their activities at the stands located along the pedestrian street. A few thousand people visited celebration of the Day of Sweden this year. They not only got acquainted with activities of the participating companies but also had a possibility to take a closer look at the contemporary Swedish musical culture and to receive information about the tourist potential of Sweden.


Financial Directors Club

A joint speech of Tatiana Mitina, Financial Director of Stockholm School of Economics, Russia, and our graduate Sergey Chadin entitled "Strategic marketing for a financial director: a fashionable trend or a demand of time?" took place during the second meeting of the Club of Financial Directors of Vedomosti newspaper organized with participation of Stockholm School Russia. The report was dedicated to vital relations between marketers and financiers, the place of strategic marketing in a structure of a company and importance of strategic marketing for increase of the value of a business in general.






SSE at the International Economic Forum

Carl Fey, Professor of the Stockholm School of Economics, and Igor Dukeov, Professor and EMT Area Principle, took part in work of the World Economic Forum. This year, the school is one of the partners of the World Economic Forum responsible for research in Northwestern region.

Igor Dukeov performed a research aimed at finding of global competitiveness of the forum.

Carl Fey took active part in the discussions during the days of the forum and gave an interview in the program of Russia Today TV-channel in which he shared his opinion about the Russian business and its place in the world, about possible options of reaction to the crisis, abut the global financial system and its influence on the Russian economy.


Two graduates of our school included into the "presidential hundred!"

Graduate of Stockholm School of Economics Yevgeny Redin was put on the list of the managerial human resources formed at the beginning of spring according to an instruction of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

This list was composed in all regions for promotion of the best human resources for important state posts. The top presidential hundred published at the website of the Kremlin in March finally included 36 representatives of the federal executive power bodies, 23 candidates from the regional authorities, 31 representatives of business and ten people from the field of science, education and public organizations. The main condition was that a candidate should be from 25 to 50 years old, should have higher education and certain professional qualities. It is necessary to say that the presidential reserve has already been put into rotation of managerial staff.

We sincerely congratulate Yevgeny Redin and wish him success in work for the benefit of Russia!


Stockholm School of Economics had an Open Doors Day in Moscow

Another Open Doors Day took place in Marriott Tverskaya hotel on April 7 and more than 140 guests visited it. Many potential students were present besides the graduates of the past years. The Open Doors Day included reports of program directors with a presentation of Stockholm School of Economics, Russia, some lecturers of the school and a lecture of Dean, Dr. Anders Liljenberg.

The lecture was dedicated to the situation in contemporary marketing written in the program of the meeting attracted attention of the audience and caused an interesting and serious discussion.

A conference for HR directors was held on June 4

Stockholm School of Economics Russia and ANKOR holding held a seminar entitled "Motivation in new economic conditions" in the building of the school in the Shvedsky Pereulok, 2

The topic of the seminar was a vital matter of combating crisis on the labor market in Russia where a serious correction of trends of the previous years was going on. Participants of the seminar also discussed problems of motivation of employees because retention of the key players and work with the opinion leaders were getting more important now.

Among the speakers of the seminar were: Carl Fey, leading expert for Russia and invited guest of the International Economic Forum, Professor of Stockholm School of Economics, who shared results of his latest research of Russian companies and international experience of solving of motivation problems during the crisis period.




Igor Dukeov at IBM conference

Igor Dukeov, EMT Area Principle of the Stockholm School of Economics, Russia, made a report at a conference organized by world IT leader IBM corporation on March 31. CIOs of the largest companies of Northwestern region related to IT were present at the event. Participants of the conference discussed investments in IT projects, cutting of costs, trends of the current economic situation development for the IT sector etc.

Throughout the afternoon speakers communicated with participants of the seminar and employees of IBM.


Stockholm School of Economics Russia is an official partner and member of the jury of the advertising and PR contest

A contest among the students of the fourth and fifth years of the higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg studying "Marketing," 'Advertising" and "PR" specialties was held in St. Petersburg on March 3 and 4. The main task of the contest was helping potential employers to decide graduates of which higher educational institutions to recruit. The second decisive round took place right in the Stockholm School of Economics, Russia in the form of defending of case-studies in front of the jury members: employees of big companies of St. Petersburg, directors of marketing departments and directors of advertising agencies.

Vsevolod Krylov delivered a report at an HR forum of Vedomosti newspaper




This is not the first time when we take part in events of Vedomosti newspaper. This time, Vsevolod Krylov, Director of Business Development read a report at an HR forum organized by this periodical. His report was entitled "Peculiarities of the European approach to education." The title showed that it was dedicated to the contemporary European educational trends.


Participation in roundtable meetings



In the first half of 2009, representatives of Stockholm School of Economics Russia participated in an entire series of roundtable meetings dedicated to issues of business education.

These are human resources that determine now if there will be a business or if it will not be and this is not surprising that people are always glad to see Alexey Popov, Vsevolod Krylov and Eugeny Terukov at meetings and discussions dedicated to such vital problem.

Exhibitions:

At the end of March, QS World MBA Tour provided a new opportunity to MBA candidates from Moscow and St. Petersburg to meet with representatives of reception commissions and graduates of Full-time and Executive МВА programs of many business schools.

At the show officially opened on March 23 all visitors received detailed information about MBA programs, enlistment process, GMAT, scholarships and follow-up employment.

Participants were also given a possibility to take part in seminars and panel discussions of Executive MBA program for top managers organized by Begin group in Moscow on March 26.

Experts, graduates and HR directors of schools were asked many vital questions both at the show and at the seminars. Our stand enjoyed a big popularity, which once again spoke about status and prestige of our school.


A master class at MBA Invest show

MBA Invest show organized by daily business newspaper Vedomosti took place in Holiday Inn St. Petersburg Moskovskie Vorota hotel in St. Petersburg on April 02 of 2009. The main players of the market of business education participated in the show. The main topic of the show was reaction of educational institutions and top managers to the difficult contemporary situation on the labor market and in the economy: how a manager can cope with it, where and how to acquire the skills necessary for coping with it. Participants of the show presented programs of business and MBA education of current importance, as well as anti-crisis short-term programs of additional education for top managers.

We wish to mention a pleasant fact: our graduate, friend and business partner, General Director of Brandflight agency Sergei Mitrofanov has spoken in the framework of the master class too.












New director of corporate programs

Eugeny Terukov became our director of corporate programs. He is responsible for development, promotion and implementation of corporate programs of the Stockholm School of Economics Russia.

Eugeny Terukov is a graduate of ЕМВА program of Stockholm School of 2003. He received higher education in Public Relations specialty in SPGETU and afterwards studied in the US. He also graduated from courses for improvement of qualification for lecturers of the Stockholm School of Economics. Since 2002, he has been teaching disciplines in the field of strategic and applied marketing, organizational changes, techniques of analysis and making of strategic decisions and in SSE Ring, FastTrack, CRDF and BIT programs in our school. Since 1994, Eugeny worked for large foreign and Russian companies at different times. He has a rich managerial experience. Now he co-owner and general director of consulting research company SSE RING.

New appointment

The Stockholm School of Economics, Russia permanently strengthens its positions in the sector of business education. Appointment of Per Hedberg on the post of Academic director in Russia is a new confirmation of this.

Per Hedrick Hedberg, graduate of the Stockholm School of Economics and Columbian University, has master degrees in philosophy and arts and is doctor of psychology. He is author of a series of monographs and scientific articles dedicated to various disciplines: behavioral studies, social psychology and theory of motivation.

Hedberg has worked for the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia since 2006 and has earned reputation of excellent specialist and perfect lecturer. We wish him success in the new capacity and interesting productive work!

WE HAVE A NEW HEAD OF DEGREE UNIT!

It is always pleasant for us to speak about personnel changes in the School if they are connected with the employees whom we have known and liked for a very long time already! One of such appointments happened in February of 2009:Irina Zakharova was appointed as Head of Degree Unit of the Stockholm School of Economics in Russia!

Irina started working for the Stockholm School of Economics already having a big managerial experience. She not only managed departments of several St. Petersburg-based and international companies but also owned her own tourist agency. In five years of work for the Stockholm School of Economics she passed a successful path from administrative manager, our student, manager of our publishing house to the present appointment. All colleagues and students of the Stockholm School of Economics, Russia wish successful work in the new capacity to Irina! Way to go!

JTI and SSE Russia announce partnership

On July 9, we reached an agreement on partnership with JTI (Japan Tobacco International) in creation of a joint educational program. For us it will be one of the largest educational projects in the segment of corporate business education!

The program is developed specifically for corporate university IKUSEI that has been functioning in JTI since 2009. Well-known lecturers of the business school will offer a two-year course for 27 key managers of JTI for development of strategic management skills and leadership qualities.

We sincerely hope that this course will not only be useful for both parties that participate in the project but will also be remembered always by all lecturers and students!




Accomplishment of the first round of the program for RZD


The first corporate education program for employees of the Russian Railways (RZD) was successfully accomplished!

Thirty-five top managers, graduates of the program, defended their Executive Master Theses projects dedicated mostly to strategy, finance and human resources management in their professional business sphere.

We’ve already received a gratitude letter from RZD that specially emphasized professionalism of lecturers of Stockholm School of Economics, high quality of educational materials and practical importance of the graduation projects of students of the program.

The second round of the program is approaching and it will definitely be equally productive!




The program for the business academy of NOVARTIS is completed

The first round of the educational program for international leader of pharmacology Novartis is completed. The most convenient format was chosen for the group, namely ten modules and special emphasis was put on strategic marketing, finance and human resources management.

Participants of the program presented and defended their EMT projects decently and managers of Novartis praised the strong theoretical base, high-quality analysis of market situations, as well as the research part of the graduation projects.

Graduation ceremony took place in the Stockholm School of Economics in Stockholm. The celebration continued on a boat cruise around the skerries of Stockholm. Bearing in mind that solemn opening of the program took place at a ship during a trip along the Moskva River, it is possible to say boldly that the first round of the sailing of Novartis Business Academy adopted a correct course from the very start!
